Kingsland, Texas is an unincorporated community in Llano County about 85 minutes northwest of Austin. The town began when Martin King Sr. and J. M. Trussell bought land to use as a town site. King died before he could complete his dream, so his wife took over the task. She had the land surveyed and named the town Kingsville in his honor. Kingsville was changed to Kingsland a few years later because there was already a Kingsville in Texas. The town flourished as a cotton and trading center for many years. Residents and tourists began arriving in the area when the Texas Central Railroad started operating in 1892.
